Poetry, Rastafari, jazz instinct and dub space meet in a voice that refuses easy reggae formulas. Jah9 can sound meditative one minute and confrontational the next without changing her center.

Jah9 came to music through poetry, church and a deep ear for jazz before roots reggae and instrumental dub gave her a different kind of space for words. That combination became unusually clear on New Name in 2013 and the self-directed 9 in 2016, where she wrote, sang and produced inside arrangements built for attention rather than background listening. Her work has continued to move through yoga, spiritual inquiry, dub, jazz phrasing and contemporary roots production. Note To Self in 2020 widened the collaborative frame, while the 2026 Open Heart Project continued a catalog more interested in inner work and experimentation than chasing one revival-era template.

- Jah9 is commonly grouped with the Reggae Revival generation, but her own mixture of poetry, jazz, dub, yoga and Rastafari makes the label only one doorway into the work.
