THE STORY

A producer from Tours whose low-slung digital reggae, hip-hop haze and soft-focus electronics helped turn Vapor Dub from a private studio language into a recognizable French lane.

GO DEEPER

Atili came through the Tours reggae and sound-system world as a producer, DJ and beatmaker, often working close to his brother Biga*Ranx and the wider Brigante circle. His records leave room around the bass: digital riddims, treated voices, hip-hop drums and blurred electronic color sit together without forcing every track into the same reggae template. Projects including “Bridge Over Troubled Dreams,” “Cityscape” and the “Huglife” series helped establish the sound French reggae media and the artists themselves call Vapor Dub. Atili is central to that history, but the name grew through a circle rather than one uncontested invention moment. Biga*Ranx, Atili and their collaborators shaped overlapping versions of the same hazy idea.

Where the history is argued

  • Vapor Dub has no settled founding document. Biga*Ranx, Atili and their shared circle use overlapping origin language, so the history is presented as collaborative rather than awarding one sole inventor.

How they stand with the others

Came togetherAtili helped define and circulate Vapor Dub through solo records and collaborations around the Tours/Brigante circle.

Mixed withHis production moves between reggae, dub, hip-hop and electronic beat music rather than treating Vapor Dub as one fixed riddim recipe.
