THE STORY

A Sicilian-born singer, musician and dub producer who moved to Jamaica and built his career inside its studio culture. Alborosie’s roots sound is international, but the work is grounded in years of Jamaican collaboration rather than costume.

GO DEEPER

Alborosie first became known in Italy with Reggae National Tickets, then relocated to Jamaica in the early 2000s and rebuilt his musical life around Kingston recording. Soul Pirate and Escape from Babylon introduced a rough vocal tone, multi-instrumental production and songs shaped by roots reggae, dancehall and dub. He later built Shengen Studio and produced increasingly elaborate records and dub versions, collaborating with artists including Sizzla, Black Uhuru, Chronixx and the Wailers’ rhythm-section lineage. His story raises a useful question for the Tree: reggae can be adopted internationally, but authority comes through sustained musical relationships and practice, not through accent alone.
