Tarrus Riley’s breakthrough came with Parables in 2006, an album shaped closely with saxophonist, arranger and bandleader Dean Fraser. “She’s Royal” reached far beyond reggae audiences, but the same record also held social warning, African identity and roots arrangements. Contagious and later albums widened the production and collaborations while keeping Riley’s commanding vocal tone at the center. He works comfortably with Damian Marley, Etana, Konshens and other artists across reggae and dancehall. The range matters: Tarrus is not only a romantic singer, and his culture songs are not a separate costume from the love songs.
