Jesse Royal emerged in the 2010s generation often grouped around reggae’s roots resurgence, but his voice has always carried more bite than a revival costume. Lily of da Valley established the balance between roots arrangements, singjay phrasing and political writing; Royal widened the production and guest list and earned a GRAMMY nomination. No Place Like Home in 2025 turns home into something larger than nostalgia: Jamaica, family, spiritual ground and the pressure to build a life without losing the place that formed you. Collaborations with Kabaka Pyramid, Romain Virgo and Yohan Marley place Jesse inside a living Jamaican network rather than a solitary “conscious artist” category.
