Samory I’s Black Gold, produced by Rory Stone Love, introduced a singer whose narrow, urgent tone felt immediately separate from smoother revival-era vocals. The record placed contemporary Jamaican subjects inside a roots framework without pretending the present was the 1970s. Strength, produced by Winta James, widened the writing and arrangements while keeping the pressure intact. Songs address violence, fatherhood, survival and spiritual resolve; collaborations with Lila Iké, Kabaka Pyramid, Capleton and Mortimer show the album as part of a current Jamaican conversation rather than an isolated roots exercise.
