REGGAE REVIVAL

c. 2011 – presentKingston
THE STORY

2010s Kingston looking home, then walking forward: Chronixx, Protoje, Jah9, Kabaka Pyramid — and Koffee taking the 2020 GRAMMY.

GO DEEPER

The Reggae Revival is a movement, not a costume of the 1970s. Around 2011 a Kingston generation — Chronixx, Protoje, Jah9, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal — went back to roots sound and Rastafari consciousness, then walked it forward through modern production and world stages. Koffee’s “Rapture” took the 2020 GRAMMY as the youngest winner and first woman in the category. Home, then onward.
