Ott built his reputation as a British studio engineer and producer with an unusually spacious approach to psychedelic electronic music. His work sits between dub, ambient, downtempo and psytrance: heavy low end and delay architecture underneath patient arrangements, acoustic details and long melodic arcs. “Blumenkraft” in 2003 became a defining record for listeners who use the term psydub, while “Skylon” expanded the sound in 2008. The category remains loose, but Ott’s records are a useful center because dub is not just decoration in them; bass, echo, pacing and spatial mix decisions organize the whole composition.
