Jesse Royal emerged in the 2010s generation often grouped around reggae’s roots resurgence, but his voice has always carried more bite than a revival costume. Lily of da Valley established the balance between roots arrangements, singjay phrasing and political writing; Royal widened the production and guest list and earned a GRAMMY nomination.
