The United Kingdom is the first great home of the music away from home. Windrush-generation families brought sound-system culture into basements and blues dances from the late 1950s; their children built Lovers Rock, UK dub, steppers and dub poetry — and a bass culture whose later children (jungle, dubstep) still carry dub’s low-end teaching through UK music.
